Five Healthy Habits I Started In My 30’s

It wasn’t until I turned 30 that I started to feel the effects of my age. I couldn’t drink a glass of wine without feeling hungover. My fitness started to decrease and became harder and harder to get back. And I constantly felt tired. All in all, I was letting my health slide. It’s natural that women gain weight or slow down as they age but my changes were from poor habits and a poor diet and nothing else. So I decided to make a change. Actually, I decided to implement weekly and daily changes that were non-negotiable. These are the five healthy habits I started in my 30s that have made me feel happier, brighter, and stronger.

Healthy Habits I Started In My 30’s

1. Getting outside at least once a day

Going for a walk or exercising outside has helped me tremendously with stress. It’s not surprising considering fresh air and sun can help reduce blood pressure, stress, and overall mood. There’s really nothing better than time spent in nature! These daily walks have also helped with my weight management. In fact, I lost 10lbs last fall from walking 8km a day (broken into two walks) with Luna my chocolate lab. We both love our time outside and I can confidently say my daily walk is my favourite part of my day.

2. Sticking to a regular multivitamin routine

Multivitamins are a very important part of a healthy lifestyle. While most of the vitamins you need can be found in a balanced diet, taking a multivitamin ensures you are always on top of your health. It’s very important to choose a high-quality multivitamin for maximum results. My favorite multivitamin is from @Platinum_Naturals. Multivitamins have many advantages including protecting the brain and heart as well as maintaining muscle strength. They can also improve short-term memory and mood!

3. Reading every day

Reading every day is a part of every successful person’s routine. It is vital to always be learning new things and improving your mind and perspective on any subject. It can also help release stress and increase your cognitive abilities. With how much time we spend on screens, I find it more important now than ever to take a break and enjoy a good book! I’m usually in bed by 8:30 and get in a solid hour of reading before bed. Reading every day is the first healthy habit I started and is something I recommend to anyone who is looking to reduce stress or gain back some me-time.

4. Maintaining a good work-life balance

The groundwork of every successful routine starts with separating parts of your life for certain times of the day. By having a perfect work-life balance you can enjoy all aspects of your life without worry. Letting work occupy your mind all the time can negatively affect your leisure time which can then affect your work. Maintaining this balance can also increase productivity and creativity during work hours as it allows you to be more focused on the task at hand without any distractions.

5. Prioritizing a slow morning.

Although many may show off their quick morning routine, it is sometimes better to start the day a little slower and more relaxed. For me, a perfect morning routine can have a significant impact on the rest of the day, so it is important to not rush. I wake up early so that I can enjoy my coffee, spend some time reading and/ or enjoy a slow walk with Luna.

These healthy habits didn’t happen overnight, but I’m glad I took the effort to implement these into my routine! The most important aspect of a healthy routine is consistency. Sticking to healthy habits every day may be hard at first but will eventually become effortless! What’s a change you’ve made in your life recently?
