If you’re looking for the perfect location to take your engagement photos, Niagara-on-the-Lake offers beautiful scenery to capture the most magical moments. Located on the Niagara Peninsula, this small town offers an incredible array of natural landscapes. This region is one of a kind and it provides a wide scope for the imagination when capturing your special engagement.

I visually planned our engagement photoshoot using Pinterest, as I have a lot of experience with planning and organizing photoshoots through my company Soar Media Group. I also had a very clear idea of how I wanted these images to look, and Pinterest helped my photographer see my vision for this shoot.

The engagement photos were taken at the Queens Landing Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake, where its beautiful architecture reflects the Georgian Era and was the right choice for our desired vintage style photos. It’s elegant design, luxurious interiors, and picturesque surroundings created an ambiance that perfectly complimented our love story. The Queens Landing Hotel is also remarkably one of the most popular Niagara-on-the-Lake photo spots due to its timeless beauty and romantic setting. The historic charm of this hotel offered a unique and romantic setting, one that we knew would result in stunning photographs. To capture our desired vintage style, the photo concept was black and white for a classic and timeless look.

One of the most special parts of the engagement photos was the dress. This dress can be found on Revolve, and is called “x REVOLVE Evianna Satin Gown” in the colour ivory. It comes with a removable bow detail which I loved. The dress also features a halter neck style for a classy look and open back design with ruffle hem.

Some photos are featured with and without the tie detail to elevate my look. This dress is elegant, yet comfortable and reflects my personal style. The dress compliments my body shape, and flows into a soft and airy skirt, creating a sense of grace and movement for the photos. This dress was also carefully chosen to match the vintage location of Queens Landing for our hotel engagement photos.

Capturing beautiful and memorable engagement photos is an essential part of celebrating your love story. Here’s some tips for a great engagement photoshoot:

Choose the right location

Our engagement photos can foster inspiration in finding the location that best fits your style. Finding a location that is special and unique to your relationship, such as, where you first met, a favourite park, etc. The setting should tell a part of your love story!

Plan your outfits

It is important to coordinate your outfits with your partner, and the location. Select clothing and colours that compliment each other and the background. For example, we wanted contrast in our images, which is why I wore white and he wore a darker suit. We also chose outfits that fit the venue — the Queens Landing is a glamorous hotel and out outfits reflected that.

I also suggest putting together an outfit where you can alter things. You can get a dress like mine, where it can be worn two ways, or add a sweater/ jacket for a second look. This will make your photos more interesting and make it feel like you have more selection.

Give your photographer must-have shots

Let your photographer know how you want your photos to look and give must-have shots. This way, you and your photographer can focus on taking your desired engagement photos first, then trying creative things second. The time flies by when your taking photos, so it’s important to have a detailed plan on what you’ll shoot first.

Focus on movement

Another tip is to embrace natural poses and candid moments, spontaneous and authentic moments often make for the most compelling photos. Incorporating movement in photos can help capture candid and natural moments.

Outfits for your engagement photos

Lastly, wear clothing that makes you feel confident. It can be intimidating to take photos if you’re not used it, so being comfortable is a must!
